Biography

I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI in 2002. I earned my Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2004 at University of Virginia. Immediately after graduate school, I simultaneously worked in the school system and at a skilled nursing facility for 2 years, until I transitioned to working exclusively with adults in the medical setting. I have spent the majority of my career working at academic institutions, including Stanford Hospital and University of Virginia Hospital in the acute care setting. During my time at Stanford, I also worked at skilled nursing facilities, acute rehab hospitals, and long-term acute care centers on the weekends. I am currently ASHA certified and Virginia licensed. I am competent at completing the following procedures: Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS), and tracheal suctioning.
