Biography

Dr. Geiger is a dual-fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in orthopaedic oncology and limb deformity surgery. He has particular expertise in complex limb salvage and reconstruction for patients affected by cancer, trauma, infection, and congenital or acquired causes of limb deformity and malalignment. Dr. Geiger graduated with honors from Yale University. There he played varsity soccer for four years and was elected captain his senior year. During this time, he received All-Ivy League recognition, as well as awards for senior leadership. He went on to attend Yale School of Medicine where he obtained his medical degree in addition to a Masters in Health Science. This established his foundation in basic science and clinical research. From there, he completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Following his residency, Dr. Geiger pursued two complementary fellowships. The first was in orthopaedic oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles and the Orthopaedic Institute for Children. There he trained in all aspects of pediatric and adult musculoskeletal oncology and sarcoma surgery with particular emphasis on limb salvage surgery of the pelvis and extremities. The second fellowship was spent at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York with the Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Service treating a variety of conditions including post-traumatic, oncologic, congenital, and developmental limb deformities and malalignments in adults and children. He was trained in bone lengthening and bone transport using traditional external fixators as well as new internal implants such as magnetically-controlled intramedullary nails. Lastly, he was trained in amputation reconstruction and osseointegration, which can greatly improve the physical function of patients with limb loss. Dr. Geiger brings this training to University of Miami Orthopaedics to help establish UM’s Osseointegration Program. Dr. Geiger remains actively engaged in clinical and translational science research at the University of Miami and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. He has authored numerous research articles and book chapters on topics in oncology, limb reconstruction, and osseointegration. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS), the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society (LLRS) and is part of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Childhood Cancer Survivor Study - Surgical Working Group.
