David Harlowe

David Harlowe is the Founder and President of The Sport Management Group, Inc. (SMG), a national risk management company specializing in the athletic and fitness industries. With 30 years of experience, he has personally conducted over 3,500 safety audits, contributing to SMG’s completion of more than 13,000 risk assessments nationwide. An established expert witness, David has been retained in over 60 cases across the country. He has developed risk management strategies for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and its member institutions and has authored key industry resources, including the Fitness Center Safety chapter in Risk Management in Sport, Second Edition and a bi-monthly risk management column for Fitness Management Magazine. His areas of expertise include athletic facility safety, emergency action planning, bleacher safety, exercise equipment maintenance, NCAA and ACSM guidelines, personal training practices, and crowd management.
